Above are some photos of the week and below is a video of the broadcast from the big walk-off mercy rule win. Video credits to "The Mayor" Sean Casey and call credits to our broadcaster George Lucas.
The homestand is complete and what a week it was! This week really showed us what we were made of by giving us a little bit of everything to handle. From running our own promotional night to having two of our biggest crowds back to back on Friday and Saturday night to end the homestand. We powered through and learned quite a lot throughout these six games and now we get the week to soak it all in, recharge, and get ready for another six-game week next week.
We had 3 nights during that homestand that were probably our top three biggest crowds since opening night and one of them came during our intern-run Western Night promotion. We all had a lot of fun putting that one on and being able to show off the creativity and talent we have as a team in front of a pretty big crowd. We took a lot of pride in that night. It may not have come without its challenges in the planning but in the end, everything worked out, ran relatively smoothly and no major issues occurred. The next night while not being a big promotion, was also a crazy fun night as a 3-run home run was hit in the bottom of the 7th to walk off the game and complete a 10-run mercy rule for a huge win. Now that brings us to the two biggest bights and probably the ones we learned the most from. Friday night was our Esports night which included an appearance by former Pittsburgh Pirate Jason Grilli as well as a couple of new things we had to incorporate into our mid-inning games. This was by far the most chaotic pregame work time we had but everything ended up working out, going as smoothly as it could, and was a success as it brought in a big crowd. Unfortunately, we lost, but it still ended up as a good night. Last but certainly not least, Saturday night’s Star Wars night. This night was something I was looking forward to ever since the possibility was brought up. It came with its complications however as it took a bit to get made official and we had to make sure we were abiding by all the copyright laws and things like that but for not being able to promote it that long, it still drew our biggest crowd since opening night and was one of the best nights this season. Getting to work with the on-field crew and be with the members of the 501st Starkiller Garrison costuming group that were there was just a blast. Unfortunately, it went down as another loss in the end but still a fantastic night regardless.
This week also taught me how far connections go in this industry. I went to an Altoona Curve game yesterday and was able to go up into their press box, see their operation, and even hang up there and watch their operation for pregame and the first 4 innings. It was amazing to see how similar the systems and things were even at a higher level like that. It really gives a whole new perspective about the game and is super cool to see.
That is all for me this week! A bit of a longer read but as was expected considering all that went on this week. This week is really light with only 2 work days maximum so not as much going on but next week will be busy once again. Thank you as always for reading!
